Privacy policy

This site has no accounts, forms, comments or newsletter, and we do not ask you for personal information. This page explains what is collected anyway, by whom, and what you can do about it.

Who we are

PortableAirConditioner.uk is an independent UK guide to portable air conditioners. We decide how the information described here is used, which makes us the data controller under UK GDPR. You can reach us at support@portableairconditioner.uk.

What is collected when you visit

• Analytics. We use Google Analytics and Plausible to count visits and see which pages are useful. They record the pages you view, the site you came from, your device, browser and approximate location (country or region, worked out from your IP address) and how long you stay. Google Analytics uses cookies or similar identifiers. Plausible does not use cookies.
• Adverts. Some pages show small banner adverts served by Adsterra. The ad network may use cookies or device identifiers to deliver and measure adverts. We do not control this and do not receive your personal data from it.
• Hosting. The site is delivered through Cloudflare, which processes your IP address and request details to serve pages and keep the site secure.

What stays in your browser

Some features save settings on your device using local storage: the models you pick for comparison, and the calibration and recent readings of the sound meter. This is never sent to us. You can clear it in your browser settings.

The BTU and running cost calculators work out their results in your browser. The sound meter listens through your microphone only while it is running; audio is analysed on your device and is not recorded or uploaded.

Email you send us

If you write to us we use your email address and message to reply. We keep it for as long as needed to deal with your message, normally no more than 12 months, and we do not share it.

Why we use this information

To run and improve the site, to understand how it is used, to keep it secure and to pay for it through adverts. These are our legitimate interests. Where the law requires your consent for cookies, we rely on your browser settings and the controls described below.

Who else sees it

Google (analytics), Plausible (analytics), Adsterra (adverts) and Cloudflare (hosting) process data for the purposes above under their own policies. We do not sell your personal data. Some of these providers process data outside the UK, using approved safeguards such as standard contractual clauses.

The site links to retailers and manufacturers. They have their own privacy policies and we are not responsible for them.

Controlling cookies and tracking

• Block or delete cookies in your browser settings, or use a private window.
• Install the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on, or switch on Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track in your browser.
• Use your device or browser ad settings, or an ad blocker, to limit adverts.

How long we keep data

Analytics data is kept according to each provider's retention settings and is used in aggregate. Emails are kept as described above. Anything stored in your browser stays until you clear it.

Your rights

You can ask us for a copy of the personal data we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, ask us to restrict how we use it, or object to our use of it. Email support@portableairconditioner.uk and we will answer within one month. Because analytics data is not linked to your name or email, we may need the details of your visit to find it. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.

Children

The site is not aimed at children and we do not knowingly collect their personal data.

Changes

If we change this policy we will update the date at the top. For how you may use the site, see the terms of service.
